Sanctum Craft

A private Minecraft server I run for friends and family, where we wind down and build. The page below is a live toy: three AI builders raise houses, use doors and sleep at night, and you can place blocks too. Invite only.

How it's built

The scene

Three.js draws the world from a first-person camera, bundled with esbuild. If WebGL2 or motion is unavailable, a 2D canvas takes over. The sky follows your own clock: day, golden hour and night.

The art

Block textures and character skins are generated procedurally in Python, in the modern Java style. No game assets are copied.

The builders

Claude, Grokbot and Jev are three AI-themed characters running a small simulation. They plan blueprints, path around buildings, work from the back and sides, open and close doors, go inside after a build, and sleep in beds at night with the windows lit. Visitors place and break blocks alongside them.

Steve, the in-game companion

Steve is an AI storyteller on the private server. He reads the server log and narrates joins, deaths and advancements. Ask "@steve" and he answers with recipes taken from the game's own data files, build plans and directions home. For anything the group has not unlocked yet, he answers with a riddle. He runs on Claude. He can only send chat plus a few read-only commands, through an allowlisted sink, and he runs as a locked-down service user. Spend is capped per day and per player, and he went through two security reviews before launch.
